what's in your crankcase?

i'm a curious person and i don't believe this has been addressed here so why not let everyone here know. in my jetta i use 5w 30 castrol gtx high mileage, i've used castrol gtx 5w 30 or 10w 30 for years on just about every car i've ever changed the oil on.

my 240 gets special treatment however because it gets mobil 1 10w 30. i use mobil 1 because it quiets the chatter of the lifters considerably. although i'm planing on switching to royal purple though next time i change the oil.

good question, after all it's like $8 per qrt vs the $7 and change a qrt for mobil 1. so here's one reason.

Edit: as it turns out the price is about the same on line i guess that guys at baxters just want to make more money off people.

the funny thing is that if you watch infomercials about other oils and oil additives they all use the same machine to prove that their oil or additive is better than the competition.

i run royal purple.. a simple test you can perform...

take a normal oil and rub it in between you fingers... in a matter of minutes it will dry up..

take royal purple and do the same thing, it will sick around for awhile. basically you want anything that will coat your parts.

ps

wash your fingers before you touch you girl or boy friend.

my car burns oil so i use 20w-50 Castrol high mileage oil. it really helps slow down the burn. and I got like 5 quarts for under $15.

Royal purple is also much older for cars over 15 years approx. The reason is the metals and friction points were based off of old stands of oil. Over time the chemical properties were changed because of environmental reasons. The newer additives don't always work as well. For example if you look at the top of a new oil vs royal purple or a diesel oil you will notice the similarity between diesel oil and royal purple, and the properties of the newer oil is much different.

Cars with flat tappet cams should use oils with the older lubrication additives

it's my understanding that any synthetic oil is not recommended for older or engines that have yet to be broken in. so royal purple in not for ever one. there are other reasons that should be taken into consideration when deciding to use synthetic oils or non synthetic convectional, or even a blend of the two.
