AEM intake- loose hose?
I recently purchased and AEM intake for my 93 240SX PS13 and i went to install it, and now I am totally baffled...
After I pulled out my stock intake and hoses, i realized that underneath there is a fairly large hose that hooks to the bottom of my stock intake (close to the engine- not near the intake box) that you can't see from above. I can't tell where it goes to, it seems to go toward the front near the fan or something, but I have no idea...
Worse yet, there isnt a place for it on the AEM intake to hook in. The guy I bought it from just had his hanging out, disconnected and said that it wasnt for anything (but he recently blew his stock engine) so im not taking any chances.
Does anyone know what this bottom hose is for- and if it needs to be plugged in what I can do???

You don't need it bro, trust me on this. I put an intake on my car with an Injen cold air extension and had the same problem as you. It does absolutely nothing and will not blow your engine. I ran mine with the hose unhooked and nothing happened. Car ran fine. It's like a resonator hose or something. Again, you don't need it, so don't worry!

By the way, this was when I had a '93 S13 Hatchy. Run it without the hose and you'll see that it'll work fine. If you could find some kind of cold air extension for that AEM intake, it will work better because the air the intake will pull will be cooler than using a short ram. Short ram intakes really will do nothing for your engine in the way of performance because you're actually drawing more hot air than when the stock airbox is in place. All the short ram intake will do is make your engine note sound more throaty at high rpms. You may be best to save your money for something like suspension upgrades or possibly an aftermarket exhaust.
s13freak... might wanna try to search that out and find the thread that deals with the hp gains from a short ram intake... your information is not totally true... there is a thread that involves the use of a short ram intake under drive pullys and headers... giving hp numbers on each mod as it was installed... you gain with the short ram... so saying "Short ram intakes really will do nothing for your engine in the way of performance because you're actually drawing more hot air than when the stock airbox is in place. All the short ram intake will do is make your engine note sound more throaty at high rpms." is not true...
im not trying to flame you im just saying that there are some false ideas about parts and there are some proven facts... the short ram intake dyno numbers are on the sight... and if i remember right there was a 13 hp gain and a 9 ft/lb gain in torque... for our motors... that is alot... glad to know it wont do much in the way of performance on our cars...
this is not the same test that that i was talking about... (the previous one delt with a 93 240sx) but here is another one using a cold air intake with under drive pullys and a cat back exhaust... anyway it is more information for people looking to gain some power out of their cars...

that hose is what allows cold air to enter your stock intake(check the right side by the intake box) (i think.) on ur stock, you have a plastic tube that goes to the rfont bumper, this just takes air from the outside, lower portion of ur car to the filter. Same thing on the other side, except its a hose..
