The AIV conrtoler is that weird set of tubes, air pump, pipe and a square box that conect to the headers and senses when the exhaust loses pressure and starts taking air from the intake and pumps it into the exhaust. This thing is very anoying and sounds useless do you think its nessesary for anything? I would realy like to remove it so if anyone can tell me if there are any negetive effects let me know cuase its gone otherwise.

 

uses vacuum to suck in air to ignite the unburnt fuel. dont really see how it can be "anoying".... if you care about the environment, the future of humanity, or your kids, leave it on and dont be an irresponsible *****. plus youll need it for emissions.

 

Sorry for the bad pic but is this it? i was always wondering what it was for. soon im just gonna get a cone filter and after you get one that theres no where to hook the hoses up that come from the air box. what i was just going to do was take it all out and theres a little metal pipe that comes from the headers that is supposed to connect to all the filters. cant you can just put a breather on that.

 

No not a breather you need to weld it shut or seal it somehow. If not it'll make a loud *** clicking noise and your exhaust will sound like a lawnmower.

Umm how does pumping air from the intake into the exhaust burn unburt fuel? Acording to my manual it says it does that to keep the exhausts air presure at normal air presure which sounds almost useless. The ERG pipe takes air from the exhaust and puts it in the intake to be burned again, is that what you thinking of cause that is the one that goes around the engine and that one is hooked up. By the way I do care about the enviorment and that is why I'm asking these qeustions, I already know my car can run faster without the emissions but I plan to conect them all even if I have to lose horsepower.

 

If you buy a K&N air filter it will still hook up fine, its what I have on my 240 but that pump is very bazare it doesn't make sense, seriously why would you pump fresh air into the exhaust? To me its just a lagr bunch of junk that will take up space and weight unless someone can tell me how it works.

 

It's meant to warm up the cat faster. The fresh o2 helps speed up the catalyizing process so it works properly faster.

 

the unburnt fuel needs o2 to burn. its sorta like the old air pumps they had on older cars with 1st gen cats, but ours is vacuum operated. the manual is a bit goofy in the description, and makes it sound like itll diminish the scavenging effect. one of my gripes with the manual. but yeah, egr doesnt get all of it... if anything open up the aiv and clean off all the carbon on the reeds. use some pb and a vise grip cus those screws are easy to strip! i know from experience...

 

The AIV moves air into the exhaust for normal pressure in order to keep the catylitic converter hot. The hotter the cermic brick is in the catylitic converter the better it functions in convertering wasted hydro carbons to O2, and H20 using synthesis to break down hazardous chemicals that are in your exhaust and rerleased from the engine.
