homemade cai question

ok as i pulled out the air filter and looked inside the box... i saw a little sensor or a resistor type of thing attached to the box... i want to know what this is .... the reason why i ask this is because i want to keep the regular piping and just put a k&n cone filter on the MAF or what is it ... i m sure some of you have this on their cars because we re too cheap to get a intake... so i wanted to do this but there is that thing that gets in the way and i want to know how to put that somwhere else... or do something with it... thanks for the input

If it bolts to the side of the TOP of the air box. That is the intake temp sensor. Just zip tie it out of the way of heat.

It's not about being too cheap to buy a "real" intake. I cant justify spending $100+ dollars on one just because it is shiny. I made mine for $10 out of PVC frm the HD & used Krylon Fusion to paint it.
