importance of aiv

I was just wondering how important that is. I was thinking of putting in a cone shaped air filter and noticed the aiv plugs into the stock intake box. And there's that hose from the aiv that connects to a pipe, if I put the cone shaped filter on, do I just make a whole and get a longer hose for the pipe to connect to the whole I made in the intake tube?

Just take the hose off, and plug the AIV inlet with a breather

The AIV was designed for california model cars and is connected to the EGR system. The AIV at start up dumps fresh air into the exhaust system in order to heat the CAT faster so that it works properlly to contain high levels of Hydro carbons and NOX. Honestly it is a pointless devised unite that was no longer made with OBD2 cars. But if you do have smog in your state and it is removed it is illegal. Your engine light may come on also since it is part of the EGR vacuum system, that is listed under the hood of your car.
