awww why not?
port the block to 2.5 liters... some nice custom pistons and rods....
shave the head about 3-6 microns and get it machined... titanium springs/new lifters, bigger cam lobes...

the possibilities are endless

as tempted as I am it would cost less to just replace the engine. if the place that i get the new engine from doesnt require a core I might just keep it to build a turbo application but I havent decided yet or if someone wants to take it off my hands for a small fee I might be willing to entertain the idea.

sounds like a case of DPO (dreaded previous owner). The only way to destroy a low mileage kade that i can think of is to not change the oil. ever. till it burns off enough for the oil pressure to drop, then the tensioners dont do their job, and then the lower chain gets snagged on the opposite guide and breaks. Either that or she DID maintain it, but when a shop conned her into thinking it needed a new timing chain set 5000 miles before it died, they cheaped out and used Topline or InnerFireEngine timing components which are sweat shop crafted by the cutest little taiwanese children you've ever seen! and WILL fail.

I think the case of non maintenance is the winner here. the block is now up for sale if anyone wants it let me know. It is still in the car but is completley torn down as i need the intake and other pieces for the engine that i am putting in.
