messed up idle. any ideas?

Hey ya'll,

I drive an 89 s13 and everything is stock. My idle likes to float at around 2K every now and then... Sometimes my car will idle like this for the time that I'm driving and sometimes it only lasts a couple of minutes and then subsides.

I've tried cleaning the temp sensor... (i think thats what its called) The way I understand it, is this sensor tells the ecu when the engine is cold and to bring the idle up a bit for warm up... is that right?

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

the temp sensor could cause a higher idle but not to that degree, a vacuum leak depending on it's origin would more likely than not cause the problem at all times and not dissipate. i wouldn't rule out a vacuum leak but i'm more inclined to believe it's the iacv.
