Question MIL Codes

Hey, I had three codes pulled the other day from my 98 240sx, P0440, P1440, and P1448. I was told that it would cost close to $600 to fix, I would like to fix it myself but I am unsure of what to fix.
The mechanic told me that
P0440=EVAP
P1440=EVAP Small Leak
P1448=Vent Control Valve
however I looked up P0440 and most people say that its the EVAP Small Leak. So now I am alittle confused on who to believe.

I've never even seen those types of codes before, did you try just getting the codes using the ECU method and using the list form the FSM?

Well I got a mechanic to do it because I tried pulling the codes once and it never really worked out to good. I actually found an FSM that I downloaded awhile ago and looked at that and it told me what to do. I have to check the Evap Canister to make sure it isn't clogged. I replaced the Vent Control valve 3 years ago thinking that was the problem.
Thanks for your response!
