replacing my valve gasket

Hey, I'm pretty much new to this whole d.i.y scene, and I jsut want to make sure I do this right. Since this is my first car, and I love her. I'm going to repace the valve gasket today, and I just want to make sure, that all I need to do, is remove valve cover (in the correct bolt order), take off the gasket, put some silicon RTV on, then stick the valve cover back on right? I could be totally wrong, I have no idea. Which is why I am asking. lol. I searched but couldnt find info on how to do this. Probably because its to easy, lol. I have a 92 s13 fb.

Yea sounds like you know the procedure. Click on the FSM link if you need more knowledge on your car. It helps a lot for future DIYs. I have the car style as well.

Alright, thanks. Just had to make sure. I'm downloading FSM right now, so hopefully that will help in the future.

Alright, well i have all the bolts removed, and it all lifts off good, except for the back left (when looking at the engine from the front). It seems as if it is stuck on something, underneath the valve cover, because it is unscrewed, and does lift off of the bottom part of the engine, but it wont come all the way off and out. Any ideas? I'm scared to wiggle and tug to much, for obvious reasons. WTF is this ***** stuck on? lol. I'm so close, yet so far away

EDIT:: I think I found the problem, it seems to be in the left side of the engine, almost exactly in the middle. There is a piece of plastic, that is attatched to a long plastic thin with wires(?) running through it. There was a bolt connecting it to the valve cover, so i removed the bolt, but the plastic is still restricting it from moving upwards, and coming off. The piece of plastic is in the shape of an L...if you get what I mean. GRRRrrr
