s13 sohc -> s14 dohc

so i've read tons of stuff about how you have to use a lower intake plenum, exhaust manifold, distributor etc. from an s13 dohc when doing this swap as well as wire the s13 doch ecu connector to the s14 harness. my question is why? why can't i just use the s14 ecu? if its an obI s14 engine (pre 97), why do i need to do all that?

You're putting an S14 dohc engine into an S13, or the other way around?

From what I can tell, if you swap the entire intake manifold, along with the exhaust manifold, knock sensor and distributor, you should be able to use your original wiring harness.

OBD I is pre-96, not pre-97.

holy freaking jeez!!! i'm really usually a nice guy, but i just can't take it anymore!!! do you people comprehend things you read? i made it very obvious in my first post i knew that i could just swap the manis and dist. from an s13 dohc to the s14 dohc and make it work, my question was can i get away with NOT doing it!!! i just wanted to know why i would need to swap the manifolds instead of just use the s14 ecu (fitment, s13 body harness doesn't connect to s14 ecu, etc.). and no, i can't just use my original wiring harness, because as the title states, i'm going from an s13 Sohc to an s14 Dohc. if i was just going from an s13 dohc to an s14 dohc, yes, but thats not the case.

but thanks for correcting my OBDI info!

I comprehend the things I read. I also usually prefer not to be much of an assistance to newbs who post a question and expect that every problem they encounter can be fixed and that someone on the forum knows how to fix it. 16 people viewed and didn't answer? So what? Obviously those 16 people haven't done an engine swap or do not know an answer to your questions. Sometimes questions go unanswered buddy - deal with it. Welcome to life.

Fortunately for you, I'm not that much of an *** and I"ll tell you since I have done swaps:

- you don't have to do all the manifold swapping crap, but you do need the engine harness AND main harness from a DOHC chassis, regardless of whether you use an S13 or S14 DOHC ECU, as some of the wires are moved around depending on S13 or S14 (mostly sensors).

- your best bet is to pull everything - engine, tranny (if needed), ecu, main harness, engine harness, intake piping, ignition coil, power steering pump and lines, and radiator hoses off a single donor chassis.

- S13 DOHC ECU is a little different from S14 DOHC ECU. So obviously you can't just plug-in an S14 ECU into an S13 connector without having some wires in the wrong position.

ok. i kno that this thread is only like 4 years old but who cares. im bringing it back from the dead. im kinda on the same boat as the ******** who was being mean to everybody. but neway... i have a few questions myself...

my friend has a 95 S14 it is OBDI correct?
i have a 93 S13 which is OBDI, i know.
i want to swap out my S13 KA for the S14 KA bcuz it has lower miles.
seeing that if the 95 S14 KA is OBDI will i have to swap over lower intake plenum, exhaust manifold, distributor etc? or can i use all the S14 stuff?
i kno my S13 trans will work on the S14 KA, but dont the S14 trannies have somekind of sensor? will that make a difference?

if i need to clear up anything. please let me kno.

also u can IM me on AIM, my sn is filipinoblkboy

thanks again!

(should I make another thread since this ones actually S13 SOHC to S14 DOHC, and my questions are S13 DOHC to S14 DOHC?)
