eh, pavement affecting the air temp of the air that`s floating half a foot up that`s getting vacuumed into your engine? that`s taking it a bit far i`d think. same for saying that a person who lives in a swampy area is gonna hydrolock their engine by driving around with a CAI.

i`m telling you guys, try it out for yourselves, buy any short ram setup, and then find a way to try out the injen CAI... believe whatever you want to believe after you`ve driven the same car using each. I`ve driven in pouring rain (incl on the highway) and gone through shallow puddles (the ones that make the big splashy effect everywhere) with my CAI and my KA never bogged or failed to revv. Water just makes for a dirty cone filter.

buying injen short ram, with power enterprise filter - scooped/ducted to sleepy eyes (daytime cali heat on the freeway = sleepy angle. canyon run usually at night, lights on = duct cut off) perfect =0P

actually, vin, we needa hit the dyno`s. that would tell us power, whereas a drag run would just tell us which is a better drag racing driver.

i may be a little late on this, but heres my 2 cents.

Look at the big manufacturers, and see which intake they make for our cars... AEM, im sure of, doesnt make a CAI for our cars... why would that be? Possibly because its ineffective? Possibly because our cars arent conducive to such intakes because of the shape and length of the intake. SO they make a short ram. Obviously they know something we dont.

As for me, im getting a short ram and wrapping it in some sort of heat repellant type insulation

Actually the drag is a real world situation where you said that the HOT asphalt wouldn't effect your intake........
Why don't you get an APEXI REV speed meter with DYNO G and come back with your lateral G results. How bout you test your cold air with a couple runs, then just take the pipe off the bottom half to make it Short air, and give it a couple runs. Do it at about 11AM to 5pm "hottest parts of the day". I don't think you will be to happy.

what if you were to get a SRI put some sort of airbox around it and run ducting (with a larger diameter than the intake piping) from the airbox to somehwere about level with the lights?.. what different effects would that have?...i see a lot of turbod cars with ducting routing air to the filter...

Well the higher up on the hood the more time you allow air to compress into the ducting making it colder.
It would work even better if some kind of insulation could be used on the hood so that the heat from the engine/hood won't transfer to the compressed air.
The fastest Silvia in the world is running in at about 8seconds, has the air ramming directly into the turbo through the left light, nothing but top end power, and NO DUCTING that runs to the pavement.
