Str8 pipe

Someone told me a str8 pipe would hurt my cars performance because I have ka engine, he said my car needs some back pressure. I was just wondering if this was true because I thought a str9 pipe would increase hp.

Thanks

he is right, and so are you...technically

Replacing the cat with a straight pipe, or test pipe as they are often called, will decrease your low end tourque a bit, but it will increase your top end hp a bit...so, if you keep your shifts in the lower rpm ranges, i would suggest not getting it...

Without starting up yet-another "backpressure" debate (use the SEARCH for that one), here's my $0.02.

First of all, having a KA doesn't mean anything. All motors need some sort of backpressure - that is, all N/A motors. Basically - unless you're boosting, then a straightpipe will cause some loss in low-end torque. True, high end HP will rise slightly, but you'd have to be going really fast to even measure out a significant difference.

The only reason to go straightpipe on the street is for more turbo performance, or if you want to do that cool (?) "misfiring flamethrower" thing.

How about changing the piping from the cat back, along with a decent straight-thru muffler?
