Half ***? Don't mind if I do
After having never done any real bodywork on a car in my life other then to pop out a dent on a old 4X4. A friend stops by yesterday to ask about taking his old MR2 supercharged model and adding some fender flares and huge tires for drifting it. Since he only paid $500 for the car he doesn't care how I get them on there. So we put on his Ohlin suspension, added the huge 275 tires to the *** end and first tried to use a metal pipe to roll the fenders and hopefully flare them out in the process. Well we tried it and it rolled the fender but didn't get us enough clearance. The tires still rubbed. So my friend gives the OK for some serious half *** work. Got out the grease pencil, marked how far I needed to cut and went at it. Cut the lower portion of the rear fenders so that the fender would sit up about 1in more and the fender would bend easier. Then used good old Rust-O-leum paint to cover anything for rusting. Not like it mattered he was going to drift the car anyways. Then marked and drilled the holes for the over-fenders. We still have to bond the over-fenders onto the car with some epoxy body filler and fill the screw holes but it actually turned out pretty damn good. Definately will get added to the list of half *** repairs and quick fixes. It joins the list of towing a car off the tollroad with a seatbelt, welding a hole shut in a RX7 FD3S transmission after a bolt was pushed through the housing, cutting off the shaft from a SR20DET trans so that we could use it to align a twin plate clutch after the real alignment tool was lost, hammering the transmission tunnel in a Silvia to get enough clearance to get the trans in without hitting the twin plate clutch while raising the trans.
