Before I buy: Project Idea?
I've had thoughts about getting a S13 240 Coupe for awhile, but it seems hard to come by a S13 5 speed hardtop. I mostly see hatchbacks, and the coupes that I find are sunroof or convertible models.
A convertible might be fun, but it isn't as rigid as I would like. Then I started thinking about a serious project car. Okay, here's my idea for a fun car:
Convertible S13 240SX SE
I would turn this car into a "roadster", completely stripping the side windows and everything in the back seat area. The convertible roof would be ripped out and a large painted fiberglass piece will block off the hole where the open top would be stowed. This piece would extend over the area where the back seats were and then will plunge down to the back seats foot room, leaving just enough space to recline the front seats a LITTLE.
Coilovers and front and rear strut tower bars will be installed to help with handling and stiffening up the chassis. I also want to fabricate custom made reinforcement bars, one that extends across the car just behind the front seats at about chest level, and one that does the same but at foot level.
Of course, this car would never be driven long distance, would be covered any time it was not being driven, and would only be driven on days where there was not a cloud in the sky.
I would want to do a manual transmission swap, build up the KA24's internals and throw a turbo kit on there.
I'm not a 240 guy, so I wanted to ask: does this project seem completely unreasonable and make me sound like a stupid newbie, or might it be a nice little project I could work on in my spare time?
