commone problems
commone problems
so im getting an s13 with 160k and its like mint but my girl has one and befor we both go turbo i was just wanting a heafds up what are the most commone probblems with 240's besides timing chain braking or going bad and such
Depending on your area, one of the big problems that can plague 240's and other cars is rust. Look out for it, it can be costly to repair. Another problem I would look out for is your suspension bushings and arms. The bushings may be worn out and the arms may be bent or broken, I'd look at both before making a purchase. However, the bushings and suspension arms can be replaced with aftermarket parts, so if you're looking for a project you can get away with buying with some suspension problems. I know there's some other things, but I'm drawing a blank right now, I'll post more as I think of 'em.
rattling lifters and timing chain are about the only "problems" i can think of. everything else is really more of an inconvenience than a problem, such as the auto seat belts not working.
although i've never heard of the timing chain braking

well if you plan on going turbo, its always wise to freshen up the motor. Even more so if its one with 160K Miles. The cars are fairly old so of course it will suffer from common aged car things.
yeah the speedometer if forgot about that one. on my car a know how fast i'm going by the revs and what gear i gave it in. for example third gear @ 3500rpms is 35 mph. or if it is working most of the time it read +15 mph.
I figure I'd add a little to the current list of things.
Not just 240's, but the same goes for ANY car that is really high in mileage like Ruiz stated--make sure that you check the transmission for any grinding, do a compression and leak test on the motor if possible. This will be a good indicator if there are any leaks in the cylinders, and just the overall "health" of the motor. Very low compression in one cylinder is a big problem if you are going turbo.
The numbers should stay fairly close together.
Let us know how everything turns out! Good luck!
