Hi. I just became a proud owner of 95 240sx (although its an automatic, conversion is coming when i have enough budge).

I've been deciding between S14 and a EK Civic Si, and I settled with the S14. Now the thing is, i didn't really like the S13 that much because it's older. But Now even the Sport Compact Car mag is having a 20+ page of S13 madness in this month's issue (check it out if u haven't yet ). So, my question is, since I know there is very little mechanical difference between the S13 and S14, should I stick with S14, or buy an S13 (92+, because I prefer DOHC)? Or maybe even have both?? i like the pop up headlights.. so cool!!

Oh and if you could, please tell me about your preference and why. Thanks!!

 

not much difference between stock s13 and stock s14 other then looks
s13 is slightly lighter and is more prone to rusting
and the s14 has better handling but add some coilovers and it would be all good so its up to your personal choice

 

you are right, there does seem to be a lot more content and instruction on S13s. i was choosing between a 95 S14 (mine now....auto too) and other sport coupes, but loved the streamlines, which doesnt exactly come with the s13. im not a hatch enthusiast, so i'd say s13 coupe if any s13 at all. as far as whether to trade, i'd say you found something that doesn't come as an opportunity much, so capitalize on it. give it time and if you start to like the s13 looks better, jump on any opportunities...or test drive a friends and see if you like its feel better

cool. Thanks for all your opinions. BTW, I've been searching for a S13/S14 comparison on this forum. Someone said he was going to write a FAQ about that. But I can't find it anywhere. Do you guys know where I can find it?

 

just do a little research, the 89-90 s13's had the sohc engine with a pignose bumper, the 91-3's had the chuki bumper. the 94 year was converts only. the curb weight of the s13 is slightly less, but other than that they are mechanically dang near the same. the engine in 91-98 is all the same, ka24de, with the only difference i can note is on later model 95's and up came with obd2 wich isnt really an engine difference. some of the earlier 95's are obd1. if you plan on moding a 240, basically the only thing you need to chose between the two is the style, and if you really want an s14, if you are willing to pay for it. they generally cost 3k-5k for one in decent shape. koukis,(97-8) have more agressive headlights then the zenki s14's (95-6) also koukis generally cost quite a bit mroe. also, if you want a 5 speed, generally speaking they will be harder to find as you go up in model year. a 5 speed 91 is alot cheaper and easier to find than a 5 speed 98. so basically, you decide how much money you are willing to spend, if you want a 5 speed or not, and what styling you like. dont expect us (random online people) to tell you what you should get because it should ultimately be what you want.
