New guy here with questions

I bought an Altima about 2 yrs ago almost and loved it. Got into the nissan scene really big. I just bought a 91 240sx fastback and am having trouble trying to figure out some problems. I have been driving this thing for about two weeks. When the RPM's get to about 2500 I get the balt squeeling at me. I bought new belts and have them on pretty tight but am still getting a loud noise coming from there. I found an oil leak on the oil pan but don't think that it's finding its way up to the belt to do this although I have used engine degreaser and belt dressing and the noise subsided for a while. My question is could the degreaser and dressing be lubing up a bad pulley to help it subside or am I missing another possible leak that would be doing this? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think oil leaking in the oil pan area could get to the area of you belts... are you sure you just didn't tighten your belts too tight? You should be able to push down on the belt (when the engine isn't on ofcourse) with one finger and have about 3/4 inch of slack.

Yeah, there is a bit of play. Do you think that if a pulley was going bad it would make the same noise as a loose belt?

first and foremost, welcome. i can't say for certain, but i have had a pull squeaking and squalling on another car of mine (Integra). it was my a/c compressor giving up the ghost. if u have brand spankin new belts and the rigth tension on them, i'd investigate the pulleys.

I would definantely do that. I have no A/C so that blows that one out of the water. Just leaves the altenator, power steering, and such. Any idea what these pulleys would run me and any suggestions on where to find them? Thanks again guys.

I appreciate all the help. I will be taking the day off on the 4th so I can put it in the bay and see which one is failing me. I also got another problem though. When the car is in fifth gear, my reverse lights come on. How is that fixed?
