What upgrades are interchangable between the KA and the SR20DET

I'm going to swap out the engine in probably a half a year, and I'm just curious if there are any catback systems or anything to spunk up the KA for awhile before I get the SR20det. I'm just talking about any upgrades that I won't have to replace once I get the sr.

Yea, I would just stick with cat back exhaust. You can run any catback exhaust, it's still gonna hook up to the downpipe just like the KA. Another upgrade you can do is get a short throw shifter. I suggest the B&M from personal experience. It may be expensive but it the shortest throwing shifter out there.

but hey dont get too crazy with blowin your money. just get the catback and maybe just the k&n filter with adapter to "spunk" it up. if you spend a dickload of money you will never meet your savings goals for the sr. just a thought. and depending on how much you dont spend and how much you actually save you might (depending on what year your car is) be able to sping for the sr20det blacktop with VVT. Nice option.

will the blacktop drop in as easy as a redtop? what else would I need to do that swap?

i never heard enything about that... i've heard that if you get the 3" piping then you should be fine for the SR. The only difference with the blacktop and the redtopn is the color and the VVT. If you buy a front clip you should be good. But from what i hear wiring is a *****, so if you never done enything like this pay the extra money to get it done. And search a little bit i know there is a sticky out there about what to replace while doing a swap. It has quite a few good suggestions. Good luck.

i bought a 3' cat back for my 98 before i got the sr. it was obnoxiously loud at all. i personally thought it sounded awesome. i really liked the deep tone and it sounds very mean when you driving it hard. i bought a megan racing 3 inch. it bolted right up to the new greddy 3 inch downpipe as well. it still sounds great

Lemme clear that up so you have the right information:

S13 red and blacktop are basically the same except for minor differences like the ECU and (obviously) the valve cover color. There's also the amount of mileage. There is no S13 red or black SR with VVT-i.

S14 is black only, with a slanted valve cover and VVT-i.

S15 is an upgraded S14 engine... eh, not even worth the extra cost from what I've known.

There's some other differences (like turbo specs), but that's what the "search" button is for

Correction "vcet" technology, which if you haven't noticed Nissan now calls cvte technology, don't confuse Nissan with Toyota, it put's great Nissan's to shame. Nissan after all is the "poor mans Bimmer". Some SR20det s14's also came with cvte technology, not just the s15. All you have to look for is the motorized cam gear on the intake side. It didn't just come on black tops.

Why not just keep the KA and turbo it "especialy" if you have a de. If you have too many miles just rebuild it first then slap a pimpin Greedy turbo system on it. Then you can keep everything you already had.
