am i getting ripped off??
ive been searching around for places to get painted, and i expected to pay at least $1500, but i found one place that quoted me at $1025, is that to cheap to be true?? my sponser(Enjuku) said the place they go to is usually around $1600 so i cant tell if this is a good deal or a rip off. please give me your opinions. also i have rust holes in the hatch where my stock spoiler was, which i heard is common, what is the best way to repair that or should i just tell the body shop to take care of it?
well type of paint is going to be a big deciding factor. personally i would rather paint my car myself and save alot and have a better finished product. 1000-2000 is about what you should expect to pay. try to do as much prepping as you can yourself
true, but you have to be careful on prep.. some places will not take an car that is already preped for liability issues..
for example.. if you cover up some bad rust and they paint over it only to have it rust away... it's lame, but that how they do it lol.

many factors are involved when it comes to the price of just about anything and the establishment in the main one. if you're dealing with a major chain store type shop they are less likely to lower their prices because it makes it seem that their product/services are inferior.
small individually owned shops can generally lower their prices with out fear of their quality being questioned. here in town i know a guy that has his own shop and will give your car or any car a show room finish for about $1K. the price will go up depending on the paint. that is to say that a solid black car will cost you less that something flashy.
also you need to take into consideration that these lager shops have bills to pay that smaller shops don't one of which is advertising. there are other things that will determine the price of a good paint job but yes you can get a really good looking car for that price.
also this guy i know will change his prices depending if it out of pocket or insurance related. an out of pocket paint job will cost $1k but if the insurance company is paying it will cost $3k or more.

if you know someone who knows how to spray, save yourself some money and go to a paint store and buy the paint/clearcoat and do all the work yourself and save 800 to 1200 bucks. i did! i only spent roughly $600 for everything and i was done in 5 days. i also sprayed my car outside and then let it dry in my friends garage. i sanded and prepped 1st day, primed the second day, sprayed and cleared jamms, trunk, and engine bay/underhood 3rd day, then sprayed and cleared the body/wheel-wells the 4th, and on the 5th i wetsanded and polished. paint was about 400 and the polish was 100 for both stages then about 100 for misc stuff(sandpaper, painters tape, paper rolls. it was an experiance but hey i saved some money to go towards my sr swap!!!
