the little engine that could

seeing as how lately everyone is putting together a build thread i thought i'd do one of my own. my car isn't anything special so don't get your hopes up.

anyways lets start with some pics of what my car looked like.......before the accident.
these are not pictures of my car they are cars that look like mine did about a year ago.

that's right i had a fart can too. but not just any fart can, mine was a magnaflow. actually it wasn't a fart can it was more like a thunder can.

but you get the idea it was simple with a bit of a drop and nothing that would really get your attention.

i know it's a lame start to my "build" thread by posting pics of other peoples cars but hopefully tomorrow i'll post some of my car.

the wheels will be bought soon enough, the paint job will still have to wait a bit longer though.

ok i got off work early enough to take some pics of the inside.

painting this seemed like a good idea at the time. but i love my revers glow gauges.

these seats were a birthday present from me. it was either pay a little under $300 for these seats shipped or pay $600 to have the original ones reupholstered.

i made the brackets out of an old bed frame. the driver side is fixed in place.

the passenger side slides but still won't leave any room for someone to get into the back seat.

the fans cool well enough but i don't recommend them for prolonged bumper to bumper traffic.

the relays are the headlight relays i took from the parts car. they are spdt(single pull double throw) i could do a how to if anyone else is interested, it's really simple.

edit
i just want to add that my heater core began to leak so i removed it and that could be the reason i can't have my car stopped for too long during the summer. during the winter i turn the fans off.

A how to would be sweet. Dual A/C fans would work - not sure how much cfm it flows though. But a stockish engine thats not boosted doen't run that hot to begin with.

I love how your very diy with your whole car. And keeping the sohc just adds to the appeal! I swapped mine out, but I wish I had another pignose to drive around in bone stock!

the cfm flow was my concern but i don't have any problems with the set up.
i'll see if i can put together a write up by the end of the weekend.
a few people have asked me if i've swapped it for the dohc or when i plan on doing it but i don't care to do that.

i believe this engine is very unappreciated in part because of the lack of performance parts for it. but that is the by product of a lack of demand for them by the public. i won't lie and tell you that this car is the baddest thing on the street or anything like that. the beauty of tuning is that it can be done to meet individual needs.

i just sent off my cam to colt cams to get it reground to their tri flow street profile. it's gonna cost me almost $300 with shipping but from what little information i could find that cam should be worth it.

don at pdm didn't tell me the lift and duration when i asked him for them. he just said that the full race profile had a greater lift and duration. i guess geoff bardal, the guy at colt cams that developed the tri flow cam doesn't want to reveal his methodes. i read some where about a valve job that was like bolting on a turbo and the machinist wouldn't revile the secret angle used.

i kind of wish i would have waited until i had installed the fly wheel first. but too late now the ball's rolling no stopping now.

a bit of an update.

yesterday after a year of procrastination i finally mounted the fan outside of the engine bay. unfortunately between this and installing the timing belt on my moms quest i didn't have time for a how for the electric fans and relays w/ adjustable thermostat.

fortunately this up coming week looks slow at work so i might have time to do it during the week.

i don't plan on removing the charcoal canister just yet so i'll hide the vacuum line between the radiator some time in the near future.

also i plan on installing this beauty some time soon, and then the tri flow cam from colt cams.

i've been at it for about 3hrs and finally got the flywheel on. i had to stop for today because i don't have any lithium grease like i thought i did. that and it's raining but the weather has never stopped me.

getting the transmission off was the hardest part. i had to loosen the engine mounts and tilt the engine back. other than that everything went rather smooth. now i'm off to get some grease and polyurethane for the transmission mount.

i'd post more pics but i work alone so i can't stop every step of the way and go wash my hands, get the camera, take a pic, and then get back to work.

just take off the tape that holds the wires for the maf, temp sensor and i think ignition coil also. then just re tape the wires for the maf and temp sensor together. here the write up for that.
