We're on the same boat, Im thinking about shelving the S14 and just save up for an Evo X or an E46 M3... More than likely, the E46 would be a better choice.

I would go for a EVO. Like battosaii930 said you looking at a lot of money to work on them.

Well, a lot of people underestimate the E46 design. There are a few issues, but my buddy over at EvoSport has the parts that I would need to make the car bullet proof. It would be an awesome car, and I'm starting to think in the direction my mentor had trained me to be, I just wish I listened to him before and opened my experience out to other cars outside of Japanese.

Plus, the new Evo X have parts that (cost wise) is on part with the E46... So, I might go that direction. I'd like to expand over to the Euro/German market and get my feet wet there.

The thing about that is, new technology is far more advanced. The Evo X and GT-R are examples of engineering at its best. Just read an article about a GT-R vs a C6 ZO6. Had the driver in the GT-R known how to use the launching system, the ZO6 would be in the dust.

The E46 is a great chassis, but as others have said, you will end up spending a lot of money on it. My brother's race team used to race them though in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car series from 2003 to 2006, and it showed its mettle there. So don't underestimate the E46, but also know it is going to cost a good chunk of change for parts. Don't have any experience with EVO's so I can comment on that, but the parts for my E30 have been more expensive than newer Japanese cars like the S2000, so I can only imagine parts for the E46.

Yeah, the Vanos head does cost a grip, but I have ultimate fail in my boys over at EvoSport. They've built strong Bimmers for years that are still on the road going strong. I do know that my initial cost will be a pretty penny, but it will be a great daily and track (on the side) car.

The other German option is the B5 S4 or B6 S4. Again, nice cars, but this one is way under estimated by many.

ok let me give you what i know. Bmw is made out of a plastic jigsaw puzzle. its all nice and easy when its new but give it a couple years and all the plastic become brittle and breaks when you look at it wrong.

im not talking about trims or anything i mean major componants like radiators mostly and other thing like stupid plugs and intake doors etc.

also just about every bmw and mercedes like to leak oil i mean like withing 30k miles it will most likely have a major oil leak and the only reason u dont see it on your floor is cause all the plastic panels with foam in them that suck up the oil under the car.

imo the germans are too smart for their own good they try to make their cars advanced but in the end they will break down faster then a kia

Edit: working on Bimmers is what made me decide not to buy an M3 but dont get me wrong they are amazing, handle well and are comfy but i dont wana deal with the problems since i know i have to fix them my self

We have 5 bmws in our shop right now that are all e46 and non leak oil, they all also have a hpf turbo kit and all of them have atleast 750 hp on stock internals with no issues and daily drivable. Here is the link to it,

Yeah, I kinda got the skinny about some of the major parts being possible headaches down the road. But my boys at EvoSport already have me lined up with replacements that will be way better so that they'll be more durable. I do know what you mean about all the troubles of constantly fixing, we'll see, havent fully decided yet, but I would prefer something other than Japanese this time around.

And Chris, looks like you guys do some crazy work! Keep up the good work!

Anyways, we're getting way off topic LOL

So Batto, any progress sourcing a new headlight? Last time I was at Nissan, they made you buy both headlights instead of just one.

reading about it, this vanos system sounds pretty crazy. almost worse than the chain tensioners on a ka motor. i know that bimmers are sexy and the mitsu is pretty easy to work on, at least the older ones. the only problem i know of with the mitsu's is crank walk. idk. sounds like a jump ball.
