My S13 build. Phase 01. Engine Swap
#51
so i think i may actually be able to drive the car tomorrow with any luck.
I've been putting in some serious hours on this thing. Tons of little things going wrong, but luckily everything is being fixed without too much of a hassle.
We dropped the motor on Saturday, and cut a hole for the inter cooler stuff. Sunday got started late and we knocked out the wiring harness, oil pan issues (all bashed up). We primed the car and got it to run for a few seconds to see if everything was working. Luckily no check engine lights.
Monday got the radiator in, cut up the intake pipe (cheap ebay ****). To try and make it fit. No dice. Filled up the radiator and run the car. Idled fine and turned over fine. Installed the downpipe. Found a leak at the worst possible place. In the back from the coolant return line from the turbo. Spent an hour or two trying to fix it. Put everything back together for that.
Tuesday, not much got done. I put in rear diff fluid. Tried to do the tranny fluid but the fill bolt is on tighter than crap. Today redid the radiator stuff. Looks like the leak is fixed. Mounted up the fans and thermoswitch for the fans. Wired up the fans, and then cleaned up the wiring for the fans. Thanks to big vinnie for helping me with the fans.
What left?
Put on drive shaft. Located all the nuts and bolts ready to go tomorrow
Finally get that damn fill plug off the tranny. Got a good game plan for tomorrow. Hopefully it'll do the trick. I Don't want to take off my B&M to fill up the tranny with fluid.
I cut the intake pipe to make it work. Mount that up as well as the other turbo piping.
Install test pip & exhaust tomorrow as well as the new exhaust hangers.
Get the tranny fluid up with fluid and I should be able to drive the car around the block to see how she does.
I'm seeing a little smoke coming from the exhuast manifold. I'm hoping it's just spilt coolant/oil burning off. If not I think I have 2 culprits. The EGT proble hole. and the o2 sensor bung. One of those 2 is leaking. Hopefully it's nothing.
Battery is dead too, so go pick up a cheap replacement. Once it runs. I'm giong bring it back mount up the brakes and the front bumper and hood. Hopefully that'll be it for a little bit. I'm tired of working on it!
Sorry didn't proof read.

Well the car has been up and running since Friday.
She pulls really well (yay 4.36 rear end gears).
No real issues so far. She tends to die when i let off the throttle and put it in to neutral. but that's due to the bov not recirculating. I've been told to leave it in gear and change my driving habits and she'll be fine. I've done that and that problem is pretty much gone away.
I had 2 coolants leaks. Both on the turbo coolant return line. Luckily I was able to repair them easily. I had quite a bit of smoke during the time I was bleeding the coolant and power steering. That went away luckily. I think it was just the gaskets burning in.
The car sounds freaking awesome. I love the low rumble, it doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder at all. It def. shakes like crazy due to the motor mounts. I'm fully spooled by 2400 rpms.
I am getting some fluttering at rpms/boost. I'm loosening the spring on my RS bov to compensate, but I don't think I can loosen it enough to get rid of the flutter at 1800 rpms where it's barely spooling. Any tips on how to solve this issue?
I also get a lot of back firing. Normal? No cat. 3" exhaust

Made a recording of my exhaust. Some people on another 240 forum were asking. Decided to update the thread with the link as well.
