brake squeel when not braking???

hi guys,

when i push the brakes, the brakes squeel. i think this is due to the pads. (i bought the car used and had a dealership check out the car... they said the aftermarket pads squeel) understandable and ill be swaping to OEM pads whenever i gather the funds.

however, when the car is in motion and the brakes NOT pressed, there is a squeel coming from the car. i know its brake related because if i depress the brake pedal slightly (while moving), the squeel disappers. the sound comes and goes, but when it comes, its a consistant squeel, not a squeek squeek squeek.

the dealership said something about the pads rubbing but i dont think they actually tested it out and just fed me that bs. they did measure and say i do have adequate brake pad life.

anything i should look for? midas says on their website that brake squeels are from bad calipers. is that true? any and all help appreciated!!!

it sounds like a pad problem....check to see how worn the pads are and if they are all good then it's probably like what midas said....a caliper prob. But I have that EXACT same problem with my mazda.

yea me too

take out the brake pads(if you know how) and check how far out the piston is and if it seem like its out too far it can be pushin on ur brake pads which could be rubbin against ur rotor causin the squeel
im really not sure jus a guess
let us know how it works out

use air pressure to get the piston out through the hole where the brake fluid line should be. Take a look @ you piston or caliper for any visibly damaged area that could prevent the piston from going completely out or in. If it seems damaged go get you crap fixed.

OH YEAH TAKE THE CALIPER OFF 1st

okay, i got a free brake inspection at midas and they said that the caliper is sticking. they didnt pull the calipers off or anthing, they just pulled off the wheels and took a look at the pads. since one side is much more worn than the other, im assuming they guessed it was a sticking caliper.

in any case, would a caliper rebuild kit remedy this problem if it were a sticking caliper? or would i have to get a new caliper? i dont want to take the caliper off and find it frozen, and be stuck since this is my only car and i am in a different area with no friends yet... well none that i have a number to bother them yet...
