Question Brakes on a Budget (300zx vs 240)

Ok, well, i'm planning on putting in upgraded brakes. I plan on steel brake lines, period- as well as some new high quality brake pads (a recomended brand would be nice).
So the question then is about the calipers & rotors.
for calipers should i upgrade? or just upgrade the front?
and for rotors, i know brembo are the best, but cross drilled & slotted, or just slotted or blanks?

someone suggested to me that i do the 300zx caliper conversion, and then put brembo's on in a standard 240 size -i'm not certain this will work.

Next about the 300zx rotors, there's the aluminum 26mm & 30mm and the iorn 30mm- which one of these is best for an autocross/drifting application??

Finally- of all of these things, which is the best stopping power for the $$? i've read/heard alot of confilcting stuff & was wanting oppinions esp from yall that have em already.
ok- lots of questions. thanks!

Some sites to read up on.

BTW...just upgrading the front isnt to bad(doing the Z32 upgrade in the front) just upgrade the pads(Hawk pads are GREAT)and the rotors.

With the Z32 conversion, you need to buy rotors for that car not the 240. Buy either blanks or just drilled. dont get C.d&Slotted.

dont buy drilled, if you do anything buy slotted or blanks. drilled will crack under high heat conditions created by repetive braking of autox and drifting. I think that the aluminum 30mm calipers are better. Hawk pads have always worked good for me.

There has always been a contradiction lol, if you buy quality slotted rotors they shouldn't crack on you at all.

Since drilled rotors have a hole all the way through the rotor, they are more prone to cracking. Slotted rotors are good since it is just on the surface, enough to let the gasses out. so that is why i would recomend a quality slotted rotor.

This link is a really good article on how brakes work, if your interested.

nice links guys. i'd read the first one w/ the caliper comparison, and that last one woulda been nice when i was newer than i am now (still new to mech- but i understand things better now).
Slotted/blanks it is then. whew, that saves alot of $$.
any good brand other than brembo? (as it is that's the brand i'm going with)
There's one vote for aluminum vs. the iorn, will the aluminum hold up to auto-x as well as iorn?
I know i can get z32 rotors re-drilled for my 4-lug, does this weaken them any?

Ill reccomend a few good brake companies, dont know if they have parts for 240's or not tho. Stoptech, Hawk, Brembo, and Carbotech.

Texas, the re-drilling doesn't weaken them at all. Check out powerstop, heard some good things about them

wow. juztin, aside from the hawks & axxis i've never heard of most of that stuff. oye i've got lots to learn.
Hmm... a mechanic told me that the 240 doesn't really make enough power to rate a 300zx brake up grade & it's more for show... & to stick w/ the slotted/blank combo in the 240 size w/ good pads. is this right??

the upgrade is basically new 300zx calipers, and pads, and (for me) stainless steel brake lines for 'conversion' (the 300zx takes a slightly diff connecor than the 240) and of course the rotors to match the calipers (there's 3 diff ones). you'll have to trim your rotor shield a bit, aside from that everything else is a bolt on replacement.
I"m just trying to figure out what's the cheapest w/ the best stopping power
