Rear strut install

I have a pretty dumb question. Just did spring install on my friends 240 and wanted to make sure it was installed right. At the bottom of the strut there is a taper on one side where you slide it onto the strut bolt. All cars iv seen the taper goes on the inside. I wasnt really paying attention when i took them off but from the bend in the bushing it looked like he had the tapered part on the outside. Car already had aftermarket springs so the last person could have isntalled them wrong. Right now i have the taper facing out for the time being. Thanks for any help.
