People like to turbo the SOHC motor (KA24E) because they are cheap, and parts are easy to find for them. If you blow your turbo SOHC, then you can easily get another one for cheap.

It is also a good idea to rebuild your engine before going turbo. Forged internals, ringlands are know to go first, pistons, cams, etc. The link below sells a ka hp kit which I have heard is pretty good.
