first off i've a 96 240 and i want SR but being a college student i don't have enough money . but i am willing to spend 1400 on turboing my ka.... and i'll be happy with 220 whp......... numbers around that......


being said that i was wondering what is the diff between sr20det and kat . as far as driving them, racing from full stop, drifting, auto crosing?????

uhhh.... one has a lot more torque and more midrange power. the other is an SR.

I understand your a college student, and have a limited budget, but even with $1400 you won't have enough to put together a reliable 220whp. I would suggest that you keep saving up, and keep looking into some of the kits available for the KA. The SR will cost you a bit more then a KA-T setup in terms of start-up costs, so I'm not even going to get into it.

And about the KA motor being a truck motor, thats some good info there. Why not tell him to just do a search before we start spouting out stupidity.

 

I think you could do it for the price... I got my turbo from a junkyard for 91 bucks, found a guy that has a shop that should be able to do my manifold and downpipe for 350, intercooler, I havent decided for positive yet, but I think ill be doing a water sprayed sidemount, SAFC v2 280 (shipped), 370cc injectors (price?) and a few other things, so 1400 turbo kit is doable if you dont mind going to a junkyard and getting ur hands dirty to find a turbo,

 

so far i've these : Blitz FMIC, Blitz Boost cont., HKS BOV, T-25 turbo / piping, HKS T Timer, = 842.00 shipped

you know what... lets just save the trouble of comparing the 2 and just cut to the chase...

turbo KA is better for several reasons... after strengthing your stock internals and you get all that other stuff set up... you'll end up with more torque and since you already have the engine, it'll save you alot of trouble of trying to take apart and rewire a ton of stuff to put the sr20... oh yeah and the KA has better torque...

 

Having more torque is not the and all here. SR's put out great HP to torque figures. I'd personally prefer having a motor that I can boost over 20psi without having to open the whole motor up to make it reliable. You can have your extra 20ft. lbs's. Its on me.

 

there is no better motor do what you want and have fun
