no, chiltons won't cut it
The people @ Best buy and cc and such have diagrams, you pretty much find what wire goes where, and tap into the wire. HOWEVER, you need the make sure the voltage is going + instead of - and such, and reverse sometimes, not always easy.
But i'm planning on trying it to my crx this summer.

im an installer and i do it for a living at a car audio chain owned by best buy, and its not hard to do, but its not easy either, it can be done but its definatly best left to us proffesionals, i have had to fix many do it yourself jobs. if you decide you still want to tackle this you can find wiring diagrams online or even a lot of install shops will hook you up, or maybe i can get one from work and post it for you. its just that most alarm companys will only offer warranty if installed by one of thier dealers.
i will always recommend Directed Electronics alarms because they are the best out there and easiest to install with the least amount of headaches, good luck and enjoy the cussing and tool throwing that comes with this.
also use 3m T-Taps, not scotch locks to make connections and remember fuses are your friend!!!

not that hard if you like banging your head on clutch pedals
I was a first time DIY alarm installer on my S14 and I managed to get it all up and running in about 3 hours - that's including running in and out of the house to look online for some clues as to where some wires were. If I did the research beforehand I could have done it in less time.
Bulldog Security has wire scheme info on their site free of charge... I forgot the URL but you'll find it with google.
If it's for an S14, most of the wires will be easy to find. You'll have to remove the plastic cover surrounding the steering wheel column; the rest are in the drivers footwell, left side. It helps to remove the plastic panel where the fuse panel cover attaches to. There's a fat wiring harness under there, but if it seems like you can't seem to find some of the wires as shown in the bulldog diagram, don't panic ----> there's one more group of wires, just above the large one, high enough under the dash so that you can't see it from the drivers seat, but still accessable if you reach up in there.
Okay that was kind of vague, but if you have an S14 and you need help, don't hesitate to ask
