Engine rebuild questions

Hey everyone. I want to start off first by saying thank you to everyone that has helped me out on the forum. Anyway, I finally decided to order a motor set from japanesedomesticmotor.com out of Canada. I know that thier motors aren't as good as say, phase2motortrend, but they are cheaper and they have them in stock. Which brings me to my question. Since the motor will probably not be in the best shape, and i'm looking to run between 350-400whp, I am going to rebuild the engine. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any decent machine shops located in the northwest suburbs area of Chicago. I want them to bore out the cylinders if needed, and also line bore and balance, and maybe machine the crankshaft and head. Does anyone know of any machine shops? Also, how much do you think that machine work would cost? I am also planning on using Eagle H-beam rods with CP forged pistons. I was just wondering if the stock crankshaft could withstand that much horsepower. And finally, what turbo would you guys recommend to use with this application? I want somthing with a decent powerband. I was thinking somthin like the Garret GT2871R. Let me know what you guys think, and thanks again for the help, your all great. -Derek

Are you going to build the motor yourself and you just want to vend out the machining? Building the motor is not a trivial thing, especially at the HP goals you've set. If you were just doing a stock rebuild... a few torque values off here and there aren't gonna kill you. Higher HP where tolerances need to be closer... I'd suggest goin w. a pro builder. If you've done this all before, then never mind me.

In any case... In your neighborhood I would suggest Andresen Engine Development in Crystal Lake. They're not a Nissan specialist, but one hell of an engine builder. Their motors have won many SCCA national championships. I don't know if they would do just machining, but you can always ask them. They're probably really busy right now considering it's racing season, so get on the horn w. them ASAP.

As for costs... Machining costs vary by work needed, condition of the parts, and of course engine builder. The local machine shop down the street might be dirt cheap, but do they know how to properly machine x part to optimum specs or just within tolerance?

FYI... stock crankshaft is good for a lot more than 400whp. And turbo choices... damn... I'm still trying to figure out what setup I want. Let me know what you find out on the turbo situation.

I just dropped my block off yesterday to be bored for my 87mm CP's...so im right here with you...doing all assembly work myself with 500whp as a target...i think im going to use a gt30 but i may end up settling for lower horsepower in trade for the gt2871r's powerband...I know a KA that hit 405 wheel with 430 torque on the 2871 with 21lbs at 3900 rpm...probably not so helpful to you but I figured id share my story...goodluck
