guage clusters:probably a stupid Q

well, this question is probably borderline retarded. but when you swap in a sr20 into ur 240sx, dont u have to change the guage cluster to give u an accurate reading, because the ecu would have been made for that engine but the gauge cluster is for a different car. i have just confused myself even worse and i hope someone understands my question and can answer it

I am pretty sure 89-90 models you have to swap the gauge cluster to a 180sx / Silvia because the 240sx speedo isn't compatible. 91 and up should be fine though.

wont the 180sx's gauges read in kilometers and not miles. I can put the engine, but that doesnt make me a genius, i cant calculate metric to american while going down the highway

Speed sensor on the SR tranny needs to be swapped with the KA so your mph speedo will be correct. The tach needs to be swapped in SOHC clusters because SR's and DOHC KA's use a different voltage. Though I'd rather have the SR tach for the higher redline anyway.

You should if the speed sensor sends the same signal. I don't know whether it does or not though...I'm with Stupid...any idea?

Yes, if you have a DOHC 240 and swap the trannys speed sensor everything will work fine. If you have a SOHC 240, in addition to the sensor swap, you need either a DOHC or SR tach to have a working tach.
