Oil change

Hey guys i have my sr installed and am changing the oil tonight to prep for my first startup tomorrow afternoon. I am having a problem getting at the oil filter. It is recessed under the intake manifold and behind the alternator so that i cannot get a grip wrench in around it. How do all of you veterans get at your oil filter? thanks for the help.

First off, why didn't you change the filter while the motor was out? But anyway, if you can manage to get a good grip on it, it shouldn't be that hard to come out. If it just won't give, you can stab a screwdriver through the filter and use that as a lever either from under the car or wherever you have room. When installing, make sure you put some oil on the rubber gasket and just go a little more than 1/4 turn after it stops to prevent it seizing up on you next time.

also, i use a latex glove cause it has pretty good grip on it. jam my hands underneath the intake maifold and turn like none other.

wow, that doesnt sound good when you read it a second time, oh well, thats what i do though

go to napa and get one of their chain wrenches... it is just a chain with a jaw on it and workd on a ratchet... works wonders... and you have it for the next time you need to chaing the oil... and as far as the 1/4 turn after contact... that should be 3/4 of a turn... most motors push 30 to 40 psi of oil pressure and i would not trust just a quarter of a turn... hell on my old integra there was 80 psi at 8500 rpm... tossed the oil ring on the filter and oil everywhere... cured me of only a quarter turn ...
