Question about oil change

just picked up my s13 today, its been parked for the past 6 months, so i figure it should need an oil change, the engine has 182000 miles on it and i was wondering what kind of oil and filter to use, i prefer to stick to whatever nissan uses and im going to stay with the dino sludge instead of synthetic, so what brand and what weight do you guys think i should use, and also what brand and model number for the filter too? thanks

i use 5W-30. Good all around oil, or use high mileage oil. I also put a qt of Lucas oil stabalizer in there. Great stuff

why such a light oil in an engine that has beeen sitting so long?
i would break it in with a nice heavy weight...then move down to a light oil after a change or two.....

do you think that's wrong?

I use Nippon filters, but I'm gonna try a K&N oil filter to see if it's better. I would definately use the Lucas with a thinner oil but since I'm in Miami I don't normally go with thin oils. 40wt or 20w50. Valvoline.
what's the temp. like where you live.

you definately want a 40 weight oil if you see cold weather, or 50 weight if in the southern US (no less than 50 F)

Nissan oil filters will do the best to filter out particles, after 2500 miles your oil will usually still be golden. K&N filters flow great but they are horrable at filtering, usually the oil is black by 1500 miles . I have only had direct experience with these two filters so I dont know how others compare, I do recommend the nissan oem filter though.

DO NOT ADD OIL ADDITIVES AND TREATMENTS. These are BAD for your car. The oil manufacturers already put detergent mixtures in their oil, when u poor oil treatment in you mess up their mixture and can create different nasty chemicals when the two detergents mix. The best type of oil cleaner is to use 3 1/4 quarts oil, and 3/4 quart ATF fluid for 1 days worth of driving and then refill with all oil the next day, or use Seafoam in your oil for one day then drain and refill. If you let normal additives sit in your engine for months your engine will not last.
