SR20DET Dyno

Has anyone put a 240 with a s15 blacktop SR20det on the dyno. I am interested in doing the swap and i wanna do one with 6spd and best performance. I have looked around and it seems to be the S15 blacktop. Is this true, or would an rb20det, rb26det, etc be better?

I think the Blacktop S14's and S15's are overated. Sure they bolt in and put out in stock form, but it's rumored that the S13's actually have the best intake and head design, and are only held back by the toy-like T25 and stock manifold. The 6sp is also weak and prone to failure because they fit the 6 speeds into the same case and the gears are all smaller. I think the RB20 or S13 SR20 is the best bang for the buck. If you're on unlimited funds the RB26 can make gobs of power like 500HP+

I totally agree here!! If you've got the money and trying to prove a point, a s-15 would do it but then again if you've got the money for that you could get then RB26DETT

I have heard that the rb26dett make a 240 front end heavy. Is this true?

yea its true, from what i understand, the SR- aluminum, RB- Steel, so it will knock off some balance, but it all depends on what you want to do with the car i guess.. drag? drift?

the s15 is basically enhanced s14 engines, it has stonger pistons, rods, etc, as for the rb26dett, you can make around 800-900 hp, and daily drive it at around 500-600hp, but it will require some custom work.

which of these would be the best choice for the categories?
weight?
potential HP?
torque?
aftermarket parts?
performance?
drag?
drifting?

I have been looking and i am having trouble deciding which is the best, I am leaning toward the SR20 because its is light weight and has alot of aftermarket support. On the other hand the RB20 can make alot of horse power but is heavy and doesnt have much after market support. Which engine is the best overall choice for these categories? SR20DET(s13,s14,s15), RB20DET, RB25DET, RB26DET, RB26DETT?

ok....<b>IF<b> i remember everything correctly...

the rb20 weights 60 pounds more then the KA....
the SR20 weights 40 pounds less then the KA....
for every 17.7 pound taken off the car it is equal to gaining one horse...

So basicly with the lighter SR you get about 5 more horses with it when comparing it to a rb

now iono the stock hp for a sr but id guess the stock rb makes at least 5 more horses then the sr

IMO its a matter of a setup for drag or drift... if it is drifting that you want.. u have to worry more about weight and balance more than every 17.7 pounds you gain 1 hp... if this is for drag, ur worrying more about torque and hp.

Its all in what you want to do with the car. If you want to drift you want the car to be well balanced, s13 is light in the front anyways causing underersteer.Understeer: This is when, at the limit of vehicle traction, the front of the car slides first before the rear. Race car drivers call this "push". This is the way that many cars come set up to behave from the factory as it is the most predictable for average drivers. The crash mode for understeer is that when the limit of adhesion is exceeded, the car will plow strait ahead off the road nose first. This is not the fast way to have your car set up but if you are a dork mode driver. When the car understeers you should regain control if you let off the gas, unless of course you run out of road first. That is what air bags are for. It is not efficient for extracting maximum lateral G’s because the car will dynamically use the front tires excessively for turning, overloading them while the rear tires basically just hold the back of the car up.
Oversteer: This is when, at the limit of vehicle traction, the rear of the car slides first before the front. Race car drivers call this "loose". The rest of us call this "spinning out", "spinning a ****ty", "doing a brodie" or even crashing. The final crash mode of oversteer is backwards, tail first into the woods or in the worst case spinning round and round with the driver as a helpless passenger. Since the infamous days of Ralph Nader and the Corvair, most auto manufactures avoid oversteer like the plague. Oversteer is difficult for a dork to handle because recovery requires judicious use of countersteering and throttle feathering to control; fine motor skills that only some of us can deal with. Although oversteer looks neat and macho it is really a slow way to drive except in pro-rally on the dirt which I don’t know too much about. Oversteer is slow on the pavement because hanging the tail out bleeds off a great deal of speed going through a corner. Conserving the momentum is the fast way around as turn.
