heating core removal

ok so i did a seach before posting and got nothing.

so my question is for anyone that's removed a heating core. i have an '89 and the heating core leaks. do i have to remove the dash to get that thing of or can is be done with the dash in place.

i'm asking because it's too cold outside right now so i'm not going to try it today.

you might be able to get to it just from taking out the glove box. if not youll just have to pull the dash. not hard if you can drop the steering wheel.

its pretty easy to remove the dash, just time consuming. about 30~ minutes. be careful when pulling the defroster vents. they break easily.

I have replaced 2 heater cores in 2 different s13's. Its not that hard, just time consuming(couple of hours). Yes the dash has to come out and like meantioned above, be very careful of the defroster vents. Also i suggest paying very close attention to where your nuts and screws come from, if not, you will end of with a ton left over.

Make sure that you fasten everything down wellw tih zip ties because more than likely the original ties will break. Also you might want to watch the harnesses. They have flow around them that will fall apart over time and this can cause the harness to rattle when you put your dash in. If you have anymore questions just shoot me a PM.

thanxs guys i actualy did start it today, and yah the dash needs to come off. i got the blower motor and the a/c unit off with no problems other than a broken vent. no kidding those thing are brittle.
it would have been easyer if it were not for the alarm and power locks and other electronics that i installed. it's easy but time cunsuming.

after removing the dash a few times, you'll be timing yourself for the world record. or is that just me???

Yeah an hour is about what it takes me now as well. But the first time i did it, it took a bit longer. also that first time, i disconnected the shealthed cable that runs from the climate control. It took me longer to get that cable set perfectly than taking the dash out.

Yeah same here. I also had a problem with the bezel. The first time I took it out, i didnt think to unbolt the steering column and drop it. But the second time was the charm.
