intake cleaner ?

intake cleaner ?
I used the air intake cleaner from Napa by CDC that is specially meant to clean the butterfly, etc. I sprayed a lot on the valve and inside while opening and closing the valve. It took a couple minutes to start. Smoke came out. 24 hours later my car idles higher when cold now, and while I'm driving, when I put the car back in neutral to coast my rpm's drop to about 2000 and stay there for 2 to 10 seconds before dropping down to 750. Why is this happening??? Should I wipe the valve too? Is it just getting stuck open now???

I dont know how to take the betterfly out but I cleaned it and the surrounding area with a damp rag. Then with a dry one. I got a lot of black stuff out, but it still did not help the problem... Is there an o2 sensor that could have gotten messed up to cause this problem?

I cleaned it again, nothing. I did spray a lot as the bottle read. My CEL is not on. The car still runs great it just likes to stick at 2000 rpm, and idle at 900 to 1000. Where is the o2 sensor your talking about located at? Would that throw a code? Thanks.

I don't know if it's the same on yours , but my 92 240 has the O2 sensor on the driver side of the engine on the exhaust manifold . It's the only thing screwed into it with a wire comin from it . :-)

Allright. This problem was bugging me so much I actually took it to the dealership. I was expecting a sensor or o2 problem, but instead they quoted me $575 for a new tachometer assembly!!! They said my car was hooked up to a machine, and even though my tach showed 1000 rpm's at idle, it was actually idleing correct. Then they said my rpm's weren't getting stuck at 2000, my tach needle was just sticking... I told them the problem started the minute I started the car with that throttle valve cleaner, but they insisted. Of course I said no. I can clearly feel the idle change when my rpm's bounce. I don't understand how they couldn't notice. You can even here the engine get louder and quieter. What's worse is they charged me $85 after telling me that part is no longer available. Did I just get ripped off?! Any opinions?

It sounds like they were trying to stick you. Anybody can tell if its revving up or not. You should have turned over a trash can and started a fire. I am having a similar problem but I didn't spray anything. I got a lot of good advice even pictures on the post "Crazy Idle". I haven't had a chance to check them all out yet but it's a place to start.
