It's Alive!!!

My S13 is FINALLY running. SOHC KA is stronger than I thought it would be...

Long story short (car has been at mechanic's since August) the gear on the crank that drives the oil pump and distributor was worn to the point where the DISTRIBUTOR was out of phase with the engine. Timing chain/tensioner had nothing to do with it.

Now I have to get the dash working (no lights or digital speedo, but tach works ), swap out the seats for a better pair, and start saving for the SR.

On a side note, HOLY CRAP these struts are blown. Completely new suspension is the FIRST priority.

Perfect excuse to get a good suspesion setup, right?
How many hours did your mechanic take to find out that problem, and how much did it cost?

Took him two months!

Work+parts+oil change+coolant+towing+some other crap I can't remember+tax came to a little over $1k. The money could have gone to the SR, but that's the way it goes. I really needed to be able to move the car, and now I'll be able to address the suspension issue (AGX struts plus ??? springs), get decent wheels and tires, and possible brakes, before the engine goes in. I'm hoping to do the swap next summer. I also have some body work to deal with - a few small surface rust spots, and some small rust holes in the front strut towers; nothing a good body shop can't deal with pretty easily.

Right now it kind of floats down the road. After I get the dash/speedo working (I'm just gonna swap in a spare cluster I have here) the suspension will be the first priority.

I don't drift. At this point I have no desire, and doubt I ever will. Drifters seem to have a real attitude (this is my opinion, don't take offense) about what parts/wheels are good and what aren't; it's a little too fashionable, i.e. I feel like a lot of the drift guys are younger and more immature and more willing to be ****** on the internet; and finally, and this is the overriding reason for me, drifters break sh!te too often. I just got the car running, for cripe's sake!

i'm not a ***** on the net any more then i am in real life
yep when you drift stuff is more prone to be broken.
not much more then anyother car that gets the shiit beat out of it.

and most of you should know that a majority of us will say such and such part is the truth...but in all actuality we use what we can afford......

dont be fooled by the true"know it all *******s"
alot of us just want to have fun
