Unhappy Mass Airflow Sensor?

Newbie here... The mechanic working on my '95 240sx se says that my mass airflow sensor is bad. I found two used ones for the same year but both of those tripped the same error when hooked up to diagnostics. I find it unlikely that both of these sensors were actually bad. Are there variations of that sensor within the same year and model? Is there something else that might be getting overlooked? I've put over $700 into this problem so far and am getting desperate for answers.

then it has to be something electrical, or faulty ecu, or something other than the MAF. Refer to a FSM, it goes through all the electrical, does it trip the ecu?

The first replacement MAF that I brought the mechanic tripped the same MAF error code as my original. I'm not sure if they even ran diagnostics on the second sensor I brought them... I think they just hooked it up and sent me on my way. After my car had a chance to warm up, it did the exact same thing that made me bring my car to the mechanic in the first place (throttle getting choked off, pressing the gas firmly and getting nothing, feathering the gas lightly and maybe getting the engine to rev up.) The mechanic, of course, doesn't stand behind the used sensors I brought him... he wants to get it from the dealer.
