New guy here/build thread

Hey guys, been browsing on this forum for awhile now and finally decided to start my build thread and introduce myself. My name is Kevin, live in Phoenix, AZ, and determined to get this project going. I bought a '95 240sx shell with about 95% interior. No motor or tranny. My plans with this car is a weekend/autox for now, so stock engine/tranny will be going in it, thinking of turbo later on but that's aways out. The car needs a lot of work. It suffered a rear end collision on the passenger side. It's pretty f'd up. Tweaked the rear a bit but I'm pretty sure the frame is ok. I'll start off with some pictures!

I have the corner lights and front bumper. Sticking with the Zenki front and rear, might change later but I'm not sure

engine bay. DIRTY haha

Engine bay needs lots of cleaning, thankfully the previous owner who pulled the engine didn't cut anything and left everything that will allow the engine to bolt up nicely.

Most of the interior is intact. I need the center trim peice that cover the shifter and radio area. Also need the inserts for the power window switches and door handles.

We put in the carpet that came with the car, not bad.

Pretty dirty with lots of stains. Hopefully a steam cleaning will help this. I'd like to switch the seats out with some that have more bolster support. Mainly to help out with autox.

backseats, again needs cleaning. Missing the two bolts that hold it down.

and now for the ouchness. Pretty bad, hopefully a body shop can straighten this up. What do you guys think?

The trunk came with the car. Fitment on this side is pretty good.

Here's the bad side. about a 1/4-1/2 inch gap. I really hope this is fixable, again let me know what you guys think.

just another shot of the front.

Well guys that's it so far. This is my first project and thankfully a good friend of mine is helping me out with this. (Thanks Josh) We don't have a motor/tranny for it yet. So if there's anyone in AZ that has one available let me know. Also, I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on the rear damage. Is this too much to fix or can it be saved? More to come eventually.

Thanks guys!
Kevin

UPDATE 4-16-09

So today I finally picked up a motor and transmission (manual). Stock KA24DE with about 127k miles on it. The previous owner mentioned that the motor ran strong before pulling it. It came with an ECU, harness, and even a brand new clutch. Got it all for 450. I'm STOKED!

Id cut off thouse rear quarter panels and check out the damage under them. Theres some deep creases in the metal no amount of pounding will straighten that out. You can pick up quarter panels pritty cheep. Other than that looks like you have a solid roller. Hope to see a good build thread.

The hammering was mainly to get the trunk to fit. Still needs some work to get the trunk to latch properly. We did discuss possibly cutting the rear quater panel. Thanks for the input!

i have those and was thinking about trying something like that

ps - i'm the buddy helping with this project and it is sitting in front of my house right now

pss - we still REALLY need an engine and tranny, for some reason we cant seem to find them in AZ. the economy is so bad right now all the 240 guys here want an SR but don't have the money to buy one so they are sticking with a NA KA. buy your SR and sell me a freakin KA !!!(i love KA's, and will be sticking with a NA KA in mine also, ill start my ST class autox build thread as soon as i start throwing performance parts back in my car, which can't happen until i find the right house to buy )

Welcome to the site man.

Looks like you have your work cut out for you though!!

Love the S14, my first s-chassis car. I'm looking to get another one here in the near future, just need to get the funds for it.

Anyway, definitely keep us posted on the build and everything else! Good luck sir!

thanks man, I won't have any updates until we get a motor and tranny. I'm focused on getting a good, reliable power plant in this thing before I go onto the other projects.

Hell, if you were closer, I would have given you two auto KA's for free.

hey man welcome and thanks for posting. if you just look to race the car, that damage is nothing. just make sure that the rear of the car is not to tweaked before you invest lots of money into it.
