Are you talking like a MSD blaster coil? Or like a 6AL ignition box?
A coil all you need to do is to cut the plug off the harness add a few inchs of wire & 2 o-ring connectors.
Hook up the coil & your done( mind you + to + * - to -)

A coil makes the electrical impulse, which goes through the spark plug wires, and fires the spark plugs.
The point of an aftermarket coil, is that sometimes the stock coil is not strong enough to make the spark plugs fire correctly in forced induction applications. A stronger coil makes a stronger spark.
It's really simple to install an aftermarket coil. I did it the other day in about 30 minutes, and half that time was spent trying to mount the damn thing. There's only 3 wires going to the coil. A positive, a negative, and a ground that is grounded to the body of the stock coil. Just cut off your stock coil plug, put some longer wires with ring terminals, and hook up the coil plug that goes to the distributor and be done.
By the way, this is just for S13's, because I believe S14's have the coil in the distributor, so you would have to do some more modification.
