clutch+brake= win --- you would be wrong.
If you put your clutch in, it makes no sense.
Leaving the clutch out will help you more safely and quickly stop, its called engine braking. The smart thing to do would be to downshift and brake. This provides two braking qualities, both together provide more than sufficient force to stop the vehicle, and you don't have to use either too much.. this stops the wheels from locking up.

ok, there's no friggin' way in hell you're going to downshift in time when a deer jumps in front of you (unless maybe you have a sequential shifter and you happen to be the FLASH) downshifting and braking at the same time will lock up the rear even faster (unless you rev match~ refer to FLASH) making it even harder to control the car. Slamming on the brakes while the car's in gear MAY help you stop faster, but not really by all that much and it's not good for your engine. "BOTH feet down" (clutch + brake) is the most common advice I hear from experienced drivers in regards to stopping ASAP and maintaining control of a car. So I believe YOU are wrong, unless somebody else comes around to correct me.

I'd figure since you have to stop ASAP clutch and brake so you don't stall :P
