wtf? car stalling?
Alright, you need to check alot of stuff before your start spending alot of $$$$$. I had the same problem, I ended up getting a new tranny, but their is alot of other stuff that can make it act that way. Fuel Filter, oil in distributer cap, fuel injectors, timing too. Worst is your tranny.
actually today while i was cleaning my engine bay, i took off the intake piping that connects to the throttle body so i could access some stuff i needed to tighten. I dug out my can of seafoam and poured half a can into the throttle body to let it soak. I took my finger and without using my fingernail, scrubbed the butterfly and crap, and let it soak some more. It must have dribbled down into the intake and cleaned it too. When you start your car after using that stuff it smokes for about a minute and then youre all clear. seafoam is the best thing ive ever put into a car. Buy it, its only 5 bucks a can.
Seafoam huh...I'll go pick some up today. And as for checking my timing, I am not exactly car savvy, I have a limited knowledge about this kind of stuff, so how would I go about checking my timing? Do I need to take it to a shop? I'm replacing my fuel FILTER, today, and as for fuel pumps, I think I'll wait a bit, see if seafoam clears it up or whatever, I checked with schucks and stuff they wanted like 150 for a fuel pump.
wreckin yard fuel pumps are a lot more cost effective. lol. and to check timing, go up to autozone or whatever and buy a timing light. It looks like a gun and acts like a strobe. Clip it to the #1 spark plug wire, and point it at the crank pulley. Line up the needle stickin out of the block with the 2nd notch int he pulley, looking at it from left to right. There should be like 5 notches. If this checks out, and the seafoam doesnt work.... uh... youre just s.o.l. buddy
alrighty guys, I got her fixed! I'm not exactly sure what the problem was, because I replaced a lot of stuff, but I am guessing it was the throttle body, because it was dirtier then all hell. I cleaned my throttle body, very thouroughly, seafoamed my brake boost valve and poured some in my fuel tank, replaced my fuel filter and then to finish her up I changed the oil and oil filter. And now she runs like a champ again. I also did a little throttle body bypass with a couple hoses. I saw that there was anti freeze going through a hose into the throttle body to heat the throttle body up then out another hose on the other side into the engine, which is good if it ever got below 32 degrees here, but it never does, so it was just heating up the air that was going through the throttle body. So I just took the two hoses and put em together.
lol did you apply it right? Youre supposed to let half a can in, and then shut it off and sit for 5 mins. Either way it sounds like it did the job though. LOL when i put it in my mom's 90 accord, it dieseled for like a min before it shut off... it butned all the seafoam out, so i had to re-apply it.
Yo change out your plugs......
If it hasn't been changed for over 30,000 you will need new plugs, wires, and distributor cap, you may possibly even need a new coil........
Also check your positive and ground clamps to your battery if you are getting corrosion it will need new clamps, I bought ones in brass so I don't get any galvanic action on the clamps.........
Don't go to Kragen for wires though I bought the regular autolite pro fits, they fu$%in robbed me $75 bucks, but it does come in alright 7mm insulated. I'm using the Bosch double platnum plugs responce time is much faster and reliable.
I had the stalling problem about 20 times a day including start up's and I was getting horrible gas mileage........
New electrical will get rid of that rough idle problem you probably have........
