The best shot you have as proof is that you went to some guys place with the intent to purchase a vehicle on the spot. Proof will be the guy and his phone number. Not to mention an attorney.
Not to bring the tone down, but the Sacramento Police impound is shady like that. Ive heard and seen what they do. My cousin's car was impounded and when my cousins went out there to pick it up, someone jacked his factory tail lights and swapped them for some spray painted altezzas. WTF. So I made a call to my inside guy within the department, apparently, the guys out there do take things and with the disclaimer, you cant pursue them for anything. Last year, my buddy's S14 was impounded. He got his uncle (a very good lawyer) and they made a call to the impound. He told the lady who picked up what was in his car, and that if even ONE item was missing, his lawyer would sue the crap out of them. Needless to say, the b*tch laughed at him. His response... "OH, so you thinks its funny eh? Stay right on the phone. I have someone who would love to talk to you right now."
*hand phone over to his uncle, he talks for about 10 minutes and then hangs up.*
Following day, we go to pick up his car. His car was one of the many few locked away inside their building. But because of his uncle's call, it was the ONLY undamaged car on the entire lot with yellow tape around it with signs that read "OFF LIMITS! DO NOT TOUCH!"
I love attorneys.
