my friend just bought a 98 240. but the problem is the rear taillights and cluster doesn't light up. when he brakes, the lights shows but other than that, nothing. i replaced the taillight fuse for him but when i turn on the lights, the fuse blows. what do you guys think the problem is?

 

is there a stereo in it??? an aftermarket one??? if there is disconnect the ground wire on the aftermarket stereo replace the tail fuse and try again... if there is no stereo in there make sure none of the wires are touching anything tape each wire so that none of them can touch anything...

this is a common problem when installing a stereo... most times it happens when the person installing the stereo hooks the ground wire from the stereo to the illumination wire in the car... that is why the fuse blows when the lights are turned on...

that's weird that u mentioned the stereo because his stereo still lights up when the car is off.

i don't know much about stereos but how would i know which wire is the ground wire? would it be black?
