AC / Power steering question

OK, I could be totally wrong about this but I had to ask. I have a 1992 240sx coupe with 75000 miles on it. I was fortunate to find this car cheap and I am turning it into an all motor drift car. I have gutted the entire car and I am now working on the engine. I have removed everything related to the ac except the compressor. My question is this, since the compressor and power steering pump is on the same belt, will I run into problems if I remove the ac compressor and run a shorter belt in order to keep the power steering? I have heard that running a shorter belt after removing the fan will cause problems with the water pump. (circumventing the fan pulley) I would like to keep the power steering so if anyone can give me some suggestions as to wether or not a shorter belt will work, it would be much appreciated.

get a shorter belt... mine is on 2 different belts but that is on my 93... as long as the water pump is being driven and the powersteering pump is bing turned there will be no problem... my belt set up is one belt from the crank to the waterpump to the alternator... the second belt is crank then powersteering pully...

With a shorter belt you will spin the pulleys faster possibly overdriving the accessory.
You could offeset this to some degree with a lightened pulley set. They usually tend to underdrive the accessories a bit *with no real problems* The stock crank pulley has a dampener on it that helps to absorb accessory vibrations.. not to balance the crank.. The KA is internally counter blanced unlike a domestic engine.. So with air conditioning removed, that would not be of major concern to you..

yeah from what i remember my motor has three belts as well and if you bypass the fan you bypass the water pump as well causing problems

i did not say bypas the fan i just removed mine and did not install my ac compressor... there was 3 belts one for each accessory... remove one and there is no change in the rotation of the others... less parasitic drag on the motor but the pullys dont spin any faster...
