well, i guess ill throw in the 91 and bust out the timing light and see what happens.

he is right bout the tenn gurls and the cali gurls... i used to live in the bay area in cali... now i live in knoxville tn... ever heard the saying she is as big as mud???


well we have ALOT of MUD in tenn...

and on another note... by the racetrack 411 speedway (crappy 1/8th mile track) they still have 97 octane... at 195 a gallon... hows that for hi test... or if you are really nice and on the weekends you can buy erc at the track and have lots of fun with that... stinks to high hell but who needs a cat anyway???

Unfortunately for us CA people - race gas is even higher than the 2.15+ we're already paying for regular 91... and legally we all have to run cats too

It was 1.85 for 93,it went up a bit and that was for Chevron Techron gas

Im gonna switch topics again....
I have my KA24DE advanced 4 degrees right now. I run 91 octane gas, and it runs fine. The only thing you are doing by advancing or retarding the timing is essentially moving the power to one place or another on the power band. The more you advance your timing, the more power you will have on the top end of your RPMs and the less you will have on the lower, and vice versa. Now you just have to think to yourself..."where do I spend most of my time driving in the RPMs?" I always drive like a bat outta hell, so I advanced mine. (might also be why i've lost my license 4 times in the last 2 years, LOL)

BTW: I am only paying 1.69/gal for 91, 1.79/gal for 93.

If you really think it makes that much of a difference on a low-tuned (or stock) KA24DE... but it doesn't. After 2-3 degrees you're making your car slower because, although you're making the spark "lag" by advancing the timing, you haven't even moved the intake/exhaust cams to take advanntage of the timing change. Your valves are still opening and closing the same as if you had correct timing, but you're lagging the spark way too far behind.

Also, higer octane won't do much if your car isn't knocking. Higher octane (which is harder to ignite) combined with advanced timing (in which you light the fuel mixture late in the cycle) can actually hurt the engine and result in powerloss due to your mod not giving the engine enough time to burn off all the fuel to make power.

I don't know what you guys are talking about because after I swithced To 93 octane and advanced my timing to 23 degrees throttle response and acceleration improved. Everyone has been talking in Theory and from non or wrong experiences If you have doubts try it for your selves.

HOLY SHNIKEY's, 23 degress seems quite exccesive, did you start to hear knock and ping in the head, and is your exhaust fumes burning a little on the darker side? I would be scared to advance that far.
Only a few places in LA can you get 93 octane within Cali.
I'm pretty sure at that far of advancedment you should use 101octane and an MSD ignition system.
At that far of an advancement you suck the juice from your stock coils to fast, and your plugs are probably super hot. You will also need 8AWG wire grounding to the chassi.
That is alot of electrical juice, do you also have timing gear advancement, does the engine choke on it self if you don't have cam advancement?
Sounds interesting if true, I'm willing to listen.

Raine when you advance timing you are allowing for your spark plugs to run hotter "they are resistors", so you want a higher octane fuel that wont ignite to early. I took that information from the chilton's manual.
So I am kinda confused to what you are telling me? I am misunderstood?
