Well, here's the story. I put those JDM Silvia Din Gauges in yesterday but didn’t hook anything up. I don’t think its possible but I might have un hooked some kind of ecu wire or something. So today after leaving the Taco Bell parking lot I noticed it didn’t start up quick like it always does but strained. I turned it off and it did it again. Later I did it again and it did it worse. Luckily I made it home and this is when I did it and it cranked but wouldn’t start. Then I did it some more and wouldn’t even crank. All the power stuff worked/still works and I hear all the stuff click but it doesn’t turn over. So thinking it was a dead battery, I replaced the battery (needed a new one anyways). And came to find out it did the same thing, Turn the key and nothing. I know it could be: the starter, the alternator, volt regulator, the grounds, or some kind of fuse. But I don’t really know.

try tapping your starter and see if that helps it start, if you tap it and it starts, get a new starter

if you where installing somthing like that then all of a sudden its haveing a hard time starting i would say you blew a fuse. Thats what i would put my money on anyways.

check the wiring harness under your steering column... if you removed your gagues you had to drop the column... there are a lot of plugs under there that could have gotten pulled or came loose...

at least that is a place to start...

All i did was put this in. :

We hit the starter, or at least what i thought was the starter and still nothing. It was a round cylinder like thing deep under the intake manifold. Starter?

Having it slowly get worse is odd... when it was cranking, it was turning slower than you were used too, right? And not to sound stupid, but the "new" battery was fully charged when you installed it?

If that's the case, and nothing got jogged while you were behind the dash, I'm leaning toward new starter...

sounds like the problem I had. Take your starter out and test it or get it tested at autozone or kragen or whatever you have out there

Its the starter. I used a metal pipe and it started. I wonder how ill ever get that off, lol.

it is easier to remove the starter from the bottem at least i have houne it to be so for me... if you have a set of ramps get the car up on em and that way you have enough room to get under the car... it is 2 bolts from the back side... long as can be... but with a socket and a universal joint (swivel joint0 you can remove em pretty easy with a few extentions and a ratchet...

drop the starter out the bottem and disconnect the wires right there... installs the same way...

starters a pretty easy install, just do like wikd said and you shouldn't have any problems

not sure if this can relate to the interior of the car. one day my s14 had trouble starting, eventually it didnt start at all. i popped the hood and i noticed the high beam power wire that connects directly to the battery had fried. so i replaced it, good as new. car started right up. maybe something similiar happened inside? some kind of power wire?
