Few KA questions
Few KA questions
I would like to do some basic tune up procedures on my single cam. I bought a Chilton's manual to help me out, but i couldn't find a few things.
1) What is the bolt removal sequenece the SOHC valve cover?
2) Which way to spin the distributor to advance the timing? How much can i safely advance? Whats stock timing?

Number 2 is very simple. Stock timing is set at 15BTDC on all single over head cam KA's, that includes the sohc KA's produced for the frontier line of trucks until it's final production in 1992.
You can only advance up to 8 degress. After that the engine begins to lose power, plugs and engine temp run too hot for detonation"pre ignition".
Up to 4 degress in advancement you can use platinum spark plugs, and use 91octane...... Total in advancement from the distributor will now be set at19 BTDC.
Advancing an additional 4 degress for a total of 23 BTDC you will need to use iridium spark plugs, and use 96 octane "if available other than Cali".
Here is the advancement chart that I am leaving you it explains power output to the temprature increase of the plugs and chamber.......

Believe me you will feel a shift in Top End power, it drops a wee bit of Torque, but after all the KAE produces alot of torque to begin with, wait till you hit the Freeway you will know what I am talking about, I think you will like the results.......

go here http://garage.projectraine.com/
on the left click "240sx Garage Guides" then "Painting your valve cover" Hit next a few times, there is a nice little picture for it.

Cape, thanks for your concern, but the question is in regards to a single cam, not a dual cam. I've been through all of Raine's guides, they are excellent write ups.
Vinnie, do you know which part of the online FSM i can find the bolt sequence, there are about 30 adobe files to search through
