Help!! Black Soot on bumper.

Ok I currently have a rebuilt Ka24de.Due to spun rod bearing I replaced.

Crankshaft with new Cylinder number 2 piston and connecting rod.All new piston rings, rod bearings,MainBearings,Headgasket,Upper and lower timing chains,The head was sent out and had new seals and valves put in.Also the head was Milled While it was there.

It currently has 600 or so miles on the break in but I have been noticing that black soot has been appearing on my rear bumper the exhaust tip and a little on the back of the car.

The car has Intake/Headers/Downpipe/Gutted Cat/and 3 inch cat back exhaust...Also the second O2 sensor is not hooked up cuz I need a new one the tip of it broke..And also I dont have an Egr tube in the header I got the tube completly removed. It had 2 engine codes set which were O2 sensor and Egr flow malfunction.

I have been noticing my car feels sluggish to..It has a brand new stage 3 clutch and light weight flywheel in it also..But the car felt faster before the rebuild.

What could be wrong can some one tell me please?

Is it just sluggish low end or low - high? The black soot could be because your timing is off.

Umm the car feels sluggish low end But I got into it in 1st gear and it felt like it was going no where....And how can I fix my timing My dad hooked the timing light up to it and he supposingly set it to 20 degrees but ever since my car was set it idles low and its actually shut off on me about 3-4 times but it starts right back up.

20 degrees is fine.

If your idle is too low, simply adjust it. My car idles at around 700 in neutral ('96)

IDK how much low end you lose, but you DO lose some low end with headers and a 3 inch exhaust. I cant really tell the difference though with my 3 inch cat back unless I reallyfocus though.

running to rich would cause black soot, as well as being slower than normal..which could be caused by timing..

As long as the "soot" isnt too heavyit could be blamed on the gutted cat- i had cut the cat out of my 93 chevy beretta and the exhaust tip looked like a chimney after only about 4 days after cleaning it.

that rich "muscle car smell" is probably because of the cat too, they tend to clean things up a bit.

This soot thing was happening to my friend's EG. We took the cat off and gutted it. It was filthy and heavily clogged. After that the soot blowby went away.

put a cat and a new o2 sensor in and see if that helps. if it doesnt then check your timing.

Thanks alot guys your awesome.Yeah Ima get a new O2 sensor since its unhooked and in my trunk and Ima put on the Catco Cat. Will putting on the cat make me loose power.Or change my exhaust note?.Oh by the way the freaking O2 sensor is 70 dollars I thought it was gonna be like 16 dollars like my brothers Integra but I guess thats the Figure of having a Nissan over a Honda( Im not dissing honda motors but they tend to be cheaper on parts which is a great thing). And 1 more thing if my timing is off how do I set it right timing it with a timing light and with the distrubutor right? cuz me and my dad installed both lower and upper timing chains what if we were a tooth or so Off Id be experiencing more problems then what I have right?
