Rocker Arm & Lifter Replacement KA24E

In the Chilton's manual the first 3 steps in removing the rocker arm/shaft assembly are:

1. Remove Neg. Battery Cable
2. Remove Timing Chain
3. Remove Cylinder Head.

Is it entirely necessary to remove the head just to remove the rocker arm assembly? Any other advice before tackling this project? Thanks.

Cliff notes at bottom

No you do not.

Unbolt them in the proper sequence. If not you could *** the bearings up!! The caps to hold the shafts down also hold the camshaft & cam bearings in.

If you take your time, do it right. You should have no trouble & it should only take about an hour( I just did a set yesterday & it took 20 minutes.

You DO have a torqure wrench dont you?

No.

Unbolt in proper sequence. Remove.
Install new. Bolt & torque to proper pattern.
Profit...
Easy as that.

Yeah, I have a torque wrench.

Cheap13, while it's fresh in your head can you give me some details about what you did yesterday? Did you replace any other parts while you were in there? Is there a good place you can suggest to buy the rocker set? Anything else I should watch for?

I just want to make sure I have everything I might need so I don't have to make one of those halfass runs to the parts store. Thanks.

Fresh in my head..I like that. It's always fresh when people come knocking on your door asking for this crap
Just go to CourtseyNissan to get them. They are rather expensive so only replace the ones that need it( also dont forget new spring clips).
As for what I did & replaced. Most of it you cant find at the local auto parts store with the exception of some gaskets.
