self serve or shop

I was wondering how many people installed headers themselves. I would much rather do it myself, but if its a huge hassle, the shop here said they would do it for a low price.

What kind of problems am I looking at if I do it myself?

Crimson

I am stooped as to how I posted this in "New Members". Sorry mods......could you move it to the right spot for me?

I did mine myself, it took about 5 hours, and a pack of cigarettes. If you have an SR, you will notice that the steering rod is very close to the turbo, which poses a problem. heres how I did it:
1. remove intake, intercooler hoses, oil catch tank, and heat shield over the stock manifold.
2. unbolt the down pipe
3. drain anti-freeze
4. unhook all the turbo connections (oil and coolant)
5. Unbolt the stock manifold
6. manipulate manifold and turbo out of the car.
7. check fit on new manifold ( I had to do some shaving with the rotary cutter)
8. put turbo on new manifold
and put it back together.

some people suggest heat wrapping the manifold, I didn't and I have not had any problems yet, but just a suggestion. It's really not that bad of a job, plus it gives you a chance to play with your turbo and see what kind of condition it is in. Good luck in whatever you choose.

My headers should be here tomorrow, but I wont be able to work on it until Sunday. I know its gonna be tough but I'm prepared to do it myself. I have 3 major questions:

1)Whats this I hear about relocating O2 sensor.
2)Should I leave the heat shield on? (much rather leave it off)
3)Any other parts I will need besides my headers?

Headers are Hotshot BTW. I hope you guys can help me out.

well I did it myself and before I was finished I wanted to break something, It was a pain to get the pipeing that go's from the egr valve to the headers for some reason it didnt want to line up but after I calmed down and screwed with it for another 30 min it finally fit. it just takes a little time
